From Boardroom Burnout to Blissed out Entrepreneur

Inspiration struck in a moment of zen for Terry, who turned coping with boardroom burnout into a blissful new pursuit—developing his own line of holistic spa products.
Work hard and treat yourself well, these beliefs have guided Terry Carter’s off-beat path from global business executive to essential oils aficionado. His career began in Japan as a United Nations trained Information Officer, he spent the next 25 years working fast-paced positions in international business and government, with Fortune 500 companies, and some of the largest law firms in America. Boardroom stress, grueling hours, extensive travel, Terry logged it all.
The seasoned business professional often sought spa treatments to counter the rigors of his work, among his favorites was a volcanic hot springs in Japan. Accumulated, these stolen moments of relaxation amounted to years of research for Travertine. Inspired, he began studying the healing properties of essential oils, hand mixing salves and lotions to give as gifts. Through this hobby, a passion was sparked, and the entrepreneur in him recognized opportunity.
Channeling his personal experience and business acumen into creating a high-end line of healing spa products for Travertine Spa Collection allowed Terry to rejuvenate himself, too. It’s an experience he’s looking to share through his brand. Terry maintains a personal hand in product creation at his Atelier in Orange County, testing shea butter for moisturizers and helping develop the company’s annual signature fragrance—2016’s is Herbaceous Alchemy, a blend of frankincense, cedar wood, ginger, and wild-crafted green tea designed to conjure the feeling of walking through an old growth forest.
As much a reflection of the CEO himself, who loves hosting high-end parties and business mixers, Travertine is highly social. Their annual summer White Party brings hundreds of their closest clients, colleagues and friends together for a Hamptons-inspired night of luxury. Most recently, Terry used Hobnob to organize a sample sale at their Atelier in Santa Ana.
Terry found Hobnob to be inline with Travertine’s luxury branding, seamlessly meeting the needs of their high-end clientele. “I love that the app enables us to invite friends, press, and celebrity clients to our events and have real time updates. The 'hour before' notification with directions to the event is next level.”
He adds, “Our Summer White Party is coming up in a few months, the invitations will be amazing—and take a minute to create.”
